At the Beach
Tauranga Bay's beach is a beautiful beach. The kids will love skooting around on their boogie boards all day. At the eastern end of the beach there is also a lovely sandy (not muddy!) and shallow estuary which is just ideal for the little ones.
Seafood Heaven
Mussels can be collected along the rocks in the bay. Scallops, cockles and oysters are also plentiful in Whangaroa Harbour - plenty of seafood for everybody!
There is excellent fishing right here - Go rock fishing (from the rocks at either end of the bay) or surfcasting. A surfcasting rod is available for hire at the office for $5 per day.
There is also very good snorkelling to be had around the rocks and the Rock Pools at either end of the beach await exploration - filled with crabs, wee fish and interesting seashells, the little ones will have a blast!
Kiwi, Penguins, Dolphins
Hear Kiwi at night, see Penguins nesting in the rocks at either end of the beach, and keep an eye out for dolphins! Dolphins come close into shore very often. Our guests love watching them jump and play, and hundreds have been lucky enough to even swim with them!
Stephensons Island
Dramatically beautiful Stephensons Island sits just off Tauranga Bay. This deserted island has its own stunning bays and beaches.
